Show Notes Chapter Markers

Listen as Keith Pearson (Head of Medicines Optimisation, Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale CCG) and Simon Wootton (Non Exec Director, Rossendale West PCN) explore strategic procurement and medicines management, both in terms of the current pandemic and what the future may hold.

In this COVID-19 series, Tom Clarke (Director -  NHS Insights & Interaction, Mtech Access) asks experts holding operational, strategic and clinical roles across the NHS to share their experiences and insights into how the NHS has responded to COVID-19 and the wider challenges facing the health service.

In this episode, Tom begins by asking Simon about recent work to review strategic procurement in the NHS and how the crisis has impacted thinking around procurement and the supply chain. Tom then speaks to Keith about how COVID has impacted how he approaches his job commissioning medicines, before asking him for his opinion on what the lasting impact may be on how medicines are commissioned and how decisions are prioritised. Tom then turns to Simon to discuss how the NHS may approach procurement differently in the future as a result of the lessons learned from COVID-19.

This episode was originally broadcast on 15th May 2020 as a webinar. This podcast series has been converted from our webinar series 'How is COVID-19 impacting the NHS?'.
